Concurrency control (serialization, two phase lock, optimistic control, algorithms for B+trees),recovery (ARIES aglorithm), query processing and optimization (join algorithms with hashing and merge sort with large memory, query optimization using dynamic programming, probabilistic algorithms, use of histograms for statistical data approximation, multidimentional data structures (R-trees), buffer management (algorithms for page replacement), parallel and distributed databases(concurrency control through voting, two phase commit, join algorithms in distributed environments, GAMMA database engine, future trends in parallel databases), object oriented databases(elements of object relational databases, object oriented systems ObjectStore), past and future in database systems
